This group of paintings by Kathleen Willingham is about painting her environment and the enjoyment and sense of peacefulness that she feels while she is on site or remembering the place at a later time. The title of her show is “Land, Sky, Water”. The images for these paintings are all areas that she is familiar with and often visits. About half of these paintings are plein air (painted on location). She enjoys the challenge of painting near water, fields, and gardens with the ever changing sky. She has been using the medium of soft pastel for a number of years and enjoys the richness of pastel colors, textures and visual expressions that can happen with this medium.
